Text Box: Nieporte Website Beginnings

Text Box: I am Jack Nieporte, son of John (Jack) Bernard Nieporte and Martha Nieporte Fowkes originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. This website began as a dream of mine several years ago.
I love genealogy and have been involved in it since 1972. I have searched high and low for my Nieporte ancestry over at least two decades specifically. I had a very hard time finding my great-grandfather, which I have now found.

Text Box: It was such a relief to have found some documentation that supported my research, which discovered him (and some other direct decedents on my paternal line) that it further entrenched me in this work. I am admittedly hooked! This catapulted me figuratively to keep pressing on to learn more and more of my family ancestors; they which are called my progenitors. Below, I will tell you a little about myself to start.

I was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to my wonderful parents who were fresh out of the military service themselves and WW II. I am one of those 'baby-boomers' we all hear about. When I was about seven years old I moved to Milford, Ohio as my father, not a builder by profession himself, was just completing a brand new home for our young family. My brothers Tim (who is now deceased) and Jaime (James) were both young then too.

I was a Freshman at Milford High School when I learned from my parents that we were selling our home after now about 9 years living there, that we were soon to move to Florida to be near my aging grandparents. They resided in Clearwater, Florida on the West coast. We moved when I had just turned 15.

My father gave up his occupation with Vernor's Ginger Ale Company in Cincinnati to move to Florida. He had been there 15 years or so and it was very hard to pull away but he did it for my mother, as it was her family that lived in Florida. I graduated High School there at Clearwater High in 1968. I attended a trade school, traveled to New York (via hitch-hiking) and then went on to Europe. A friend of mine and I again hitch-hiked all around over there for three months. When I returned home to Florida, I had my military draft notice waiting for me.

I was drafted into the Army but decided instead to join the Marine Corps, which I did in 1969. I went to Vietnam in February 1970 through June 1970, after boot camp and other preparatory training assignments. I was wounded in combat and returned to Jacksonville Naval Air Station Hospital. On leave from there I was married to my High School sweetheart, Kyle Dubois. I got into the construction trades then until we took another cross-country trip in a VW Van in early 1971.

We later joined the Mormon Church, after having been married and raised as Catholics, both my wife and I, and eventually moved to Provo, Utah in 1974 to attend college. We gradually had our 6 children and made Utah our permanent home ever since. They are now married themselves with children of their own.

I end this brief story about myself and add this one additional point. Whether for good or bad, I am the one in the family, as far as I have been able to determine, that seems to be more inclined towards genealogy and family history work than anyone else currently is. I love history and learning about our ancestors. It has been a quest for many decades. So, please bear with me in my imperfect webmaster-ing, site design and grammar. I will do my best and hope that is good enough.

Please, now come and enjoy our site. It will be growing each and every week, so if you visit once please come back again.
